The company researches different existing technologies for acquiring plant extracts, as well as works to find new technical solutions for the improvement of physically chemical processes. “Silv EXPO” in cooperation with experienced partners – universities and scientific institutes – obtains different plant and berry extracts that are further used in the preparation of innovative health products.

Our studies of previous years were mostly connected with biologically active substances in needle foliage biomass. This field of studies has great potential, as foliage of different trees contains thousands of active natural substances that could be used in the treatment and prophylaxis of different diseases.

In projects carried out by “Silv EXPO” in the years 2013 – 2015 “Study of spruce tree needle biological activity and effects on the metabolism of mevalonic acid and formation of dolichols” and “Study of spruce tree needle isoprene alcohol biological activities in pathology models” an in vitro study of the effects on the human liver cell line HepG2 and in vivo experiments with the Wistar rat line were performed.

The company plans to continue the studies of active substances and product formulation in different experimental designs. Our company supports the efforts of the EU and other countries connected with the substitution of animal experiments for analytical testing methods, for example, 3D tissue reconstruction.

Nutrigenomics is a branch of science that studies the effects of food and food constituents on gene expression. This means that research in the field of nutrigenomics is focused on identifying molecular-level interaction between nutrients and other dietary bioactives with the genome. The technologies of nutrigenomics can be examined together with the data sets of genome sequencing, genetic variability of individuals and susceptibility to illnesses. Having this knowledge, we can potentially explain the influence of nutrients on the development of hypertension, cancer, cardiovascular, as well as other dangerous illnesses.

Although not widely examined, the nutrients play an important role in the regulation of human gene expression. Response reaction to the receiving of nutrients in many cases seems to differ according to the specific genotype, and as a result of some nutrient deficiencies different gene expressions according to genotype can be observed.

“Silv EXPO”, in close cooperation with Swiss partners “Actigenomics” has started the release of innovative products in the Baltic market, which are based on nutrigenomic studies.
